It's 21" long and has two patents - one pictured on the back of the headstock and one listed simply "PAT. This is my first uke and I am very happy with it. Remind your student: in the end, the ukulele is like most other instruments: it takes two hands to play it. I am actually considering drilling some new holes in the bridge and making some new slots in the nut so I can move the strings closer together. They’re not any more expensive than the electric ones, just a little bigger.

You will use similar finger positioning to fret the strings, so there will be some familiarity in playing the ukulele. That’s no problem if you’re playing slowly, but when playing it fast the inactivity of the thumb causes the balance of the right hand picking to be off a little bit and makes you have to work harder to achieve the same speed. The steel strings can be tuned then to match GCEA without any stress, or tight strings.   This way you dont have to learn new chord patterns and I dont think you miss out on any special sound that the mandolin has to offer. If you tuned it to match the normal guitar, the strings would be very slack. It is difficult to find satisfying strings and features adapted to each instrument. This is a cute little flat bodied electric uke I bought as a gift for my daughter. The ukulele became an icon of the Jazz Age as this highly portable and relatively inexpensive instrument also proved popular with amateur players throughout the 1920s, as is evidenced by the introduction of uke chord tablature into the published sheet music for popular songs of the time (a role that would eventually be supplanted by the guitar).

Tie-bar Bridge - The Tie-bar Bridge is a common style found on many ukuleles. The tenor-size Gretsch G9126 Guitar-Ukulele lets any guitarist sweeten the proceedings with beautifully lilting ukulele tones. I think he started with normal tension guitar strings but found the high tension worked better on this uke. Following are the gauges for each string set I tested. Generally, beginners will start out on a soprano uke because you can usually find a decently playable one for a low price, comparatively speaking. I wanted to have a wooden top and back, and I wanted to widen the neck enough to use a normal sized fretboard. Correction to relative link: Flea Market Music is for uke lovers. Knutsen must have met the uke virtuoso Kaai in 1909, when the latter was engaged to coordinate the Hawaiian music at the AYP Expo.
